In November, the Bishops of the United States issued a new pastoral letter on the sin of racism: "Open Wide Our Hearts: The Enduring Call to Love." The pastoral letter asks us to recall that we are all brothers and sisters, all equally made in the image of God. Because we all bear the image of God, racism is above all a moral and theological problem that manifests institutionally and systematically. Only a deep individual conversion of heart, which then multiplies, will compel change and reform in our institutions and society. It is imperative to confront racism’s root causes and the injustice it produces. The love of God binds us together.

This three-part series will provide participants with an opportunity to read the document and share their insights, concerns, questions, and hopes. This series of classes will be offered twice: Tuesday morning sessions (from 9:30-11) will begin on January 15; Thursday evening sessions (from 6:30-8) will begin on January 10.

Sessions will be held at the Jordan Ministry Center and the cost for the series is $25 (scholarships are available); a copy of the pastoral letter and light refreshments will be provided. Spaces are limited; please RSVP by calling (520)623-2563 or email JMT@JordanMinistry.org.

Please note that these sessions can be applied for Ministry Certification Renewal.
